Alignment

The direction a golfer's body and clubface are aimed relative to the intended target line.

What does alignment mean in golf?

Proper alignment means the feet, hips, shoulders, and clubface are positioned to send the ball toward the desired target. Misalignment is one of the most common causes of wayward shots among amateur golfers. Many instructors recommend picking an intermediate target a few feet ahead of the ball to improve alignment consistency. Alignment is distinct from aim — aim refers to where the clubface points, while alignment refers to the body's orientation.
