How to Get Free Golf Clubs, Free Rounds, and More in 2026

Who amongst the golf addicted doesn't want more golf, all the time, for as little cost as possible (and ideally free?)

It pains me to admit that scoring free golf has been a key state of mind of mine since I got into the sport when I was 10, or maybe more accurately, it was a little later when I realized I had to start paying for it.

So I worked at mini golf so I could hit balls for free. Then I worked in the country club bag room for free golf at a private club. Then I valeted at another club for access.

My buddies and I all had the same idea and, between us, built a network of free golf access on all the best private and public courses throughout the city.

If you think I gained some dignity after school, you're dead wrong. I got a job in golf media which meant many opportunities to travel around the world on someone else's dime to play golf.

And here we are today, in my 40's, on the GolfN app, still looking for ways to get free golf.

And when I check in with the starter, I meet a retiree who's working at the club for the very same thing: free golf.

Some things never change.

As expensive as golf has become, scoring freebies is timeless. I've seen it all over my days. Here are some of the best ways to get free golf clubs, free rounds, and free gear in 2026.

Use a Golf Rewards App to Earn Free Golf Gear

How to Get Free Golf Clubs, Free Rounds, and More in 2026

Most golf loyalty programs reward you for spending, not playing. Troon Access gives points for dollars spent at Troon properties. GolfNow's rewards are a rebate on their own platform bookings. TaylorMade and Callaway reward gear purchases.

GolfN is the exception. It rewards you for actually playing golf at any of 40,000+ courses worldwide. The full digital caddie (GPS, scoring, AI club recommendations, stat tracking) is free, and you earn rewards points for every round you log, every check-in, and daily in-app activity. Those points can be redeemed for free golf clubs, apparel, and golf experiences from brand partners like Cobra, Bettinardi, and L.A.B. Golf. A free user who plays twice a week stacks real rewards over a season. Paid membership tiers significantly multiply the earning rate.

The stacking move: you can earn Troon Access points at a Troon property and log that same round on GolfN simultaneously. Use your credit card and earn points off that too. Three programs, one round.

How to Get Free Golf Clubs on Reddit and Buy Nothing Groups

Reddit's r/golf and the GolfWRX forums have active communities where golfers regularly offer used clubs to newer players, sometimes for free and often for shipping cost only. A sincere post explaining your situation and what you're trying to accomplish will get more traction than you'd expect.

Facebook groups dedicated to used golf gear in your region are also worth joining. Gear moves at prices that make "almost free" a fair description for a set of irons that are a few years old but still perform.

The Buy Nothing Project on Facebook is worth checking, too. Golfers move, downsize, and clean out garages all the time, and free golf clubs show up more often than you'd think.

Become a Golf Club Tester

MyGolfSpy Testers Wanted

Equipment manufacturers need feedback from real golfers, not just professionals, and the reward for a good tester is often free golf clubs, sometimes before they hit the market.

The path takes patience. Engage with equipment brands and golf publications on social media. Build a track record of specific, useful feedback (not "great iron" but something about ball flight, feel from tight lies, or distance gaps between clubs). Reach out to brand marketing teams directly with your background and playing history. GolfWRX's testing forums are also a legitimate entry point; manufacturers regularly post tester calls there.

It's not a quick win, but golfers who put in the work land gear that would otherwise run $150-$300 a club.

Grow a Social Following

Golf social media on X, Instagram, and TikTok have boomed. And if you develop your own voice and get a decent following, the invites will start flowing in. It could come two ways: your followers invite you to their club to play when you're in town. Or, public courses may invite you out to make content. When you make organic content at their club, it's often better ROI than taking out a glossy advertisement.

Stalk Giveaways on Social Media and Email

Golf resorts and equipment manufacturers know some of the best ways to attract attention are to give things away. Crawl your email and social media for current opportunities. I know people who have separate burner profiles strictly for entering sweepstakes and giveaways as often as possible.

The GolfN app constantly gives away prizes through its sweepstakes portal. Be sure to get your free entry into each one.

Become a Course Rater

You're probably familiar with the Top 100 lists from Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, and Golfweek. Those raters often get invited out to top courses for a small fee at private clubs or free at public courses for a chance to be included in the rankings. But there are more and more independent and local panels you can join as well. These panels can get you access and free golf on courses around the world, and will oftentimes host events and outings.

Work at a Golf Course or Enter Charity Events for Free Rounds

Course employees typically receive free or heavily discounted rounds and range access as part of their compensation. Seasonal positions fill fast; reach out to local courses in late winter, not spring.

Charity scrambles at private and semi-private courses often cost less than a standard guest fee when you factor in what's included: cart, range balls, and lunch. A portion of your entry is also tax-deductible. This is how golfers access clubs that otherwise turn away public tee times.

I met a local sports photographer in Augusta, Georgia, one year ago who admitted he was invited out to play Augusta National as part of their local media day. Not a bad gig.

Donation Programs for Free Golf Clubs and Equipment

Several national programs provide free golf clubs and gear to specific audiences. The Southern California PGA Foundation's ClubsForeYouth program supplies equipment to junior golfers. PGA REACH New England's Sets Fore Vets program provides complete sets to military veterans. The First Tee connects young players with free clubs, instruction, and access to courses. If you or someone you know qualifies, these programs are worth applying to.

This summer GolfN is not only giving away points for epic gear after every round you play, but each round gives you an entry to win a trip to Bandon Dunes this fall. Use promo code BTUCK for a free month of Silver rewards.
