Nassau

A popular betting format that divides the round into three separate matches: front nine, back nine, and overall 18.

What does nassau mean in golf?

The Nassau is golf's most common wagering format because it offers three chances to win (or lose) in a single round. A '$5 Nassau' means $5 on the front nine, $5 on the back nine, and $5 on the overall match — a possible swing of $15 total. Many groups add 'presses,' which start a new bet when a player falls 2 down on any of the three matches. The format originated at Nassau Country Club on Long Island in the early 1900s.
