Course Rating

A numerical value that represents the expected score for a scratch golfer on a specific course under normal playing conditions.

What does course rating mean in golf?

Course rating is established by authorized golf associations through on-site evaluation of a course's difficulty. A course with a rating of 72.4 means a scratch golfer would be expected to average about 72.4 strokes. Course rating works together with slope rating to produce the World Handicap System calculations that make fair competition possible between players of different ability levels playing different courses.
