Compression

A rating that indicates how much a golf ball deforms upon impact, affecting feel, distance, and performance at different swing speeds.

What does compression mean in golf?

Golf ball compression ratings typically range from about 30 to 110. Lower compression balls (under 70) are softer, compress more easily, and suit slower swing speeds. Higher compression balls (over 90) are firmer and perform best with faster swing speeds that can fully compress the ball. Mid-compression balls (70-90) offer a balanced option. Compression affects both feel at impact and the energy transfer that produces distance.
