A hole where the fairway bends to the left or right between the tee and the green.
Dogleg holes add strategic complexity by requiring players to decide how much of the corner to cut. A dogleg left bends leftward, favoring a draw, while a dogleg right bends rightward, favoring a fade. Aggressive players may attempt to cut the corner to shorten the hole, but this usually brings hazards into play. The name comes from the resemblance to a dog's bent hind leg.
