Fade

A controlled shot that curves gently from left to right for right-handed golfers.

What does fade mean in golf?

A fade is produced when the clubface is slightly open relative to the swing path, creating left-to-right sidespin. Many top professionals, including Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus, built their games around a reliable fade because it tends to land softer and with more control than a draw. The trade-off is typically a slight loss of distance compared to a draw. A fade is distinct from a slice, which is an uncontrolled, excessive left-to-right curve.
