Double Bogey

A score of two strokes over par on a single hole.

What does double bogey mean in golf?

A double bogey means completing a hole in two more strokes than its par rating — for example, a 6 on a par-4. For higher-handicap golfers, double bogeys are common and represent recoverable situations. The World Handicap System uses Net Double Bogey as the maximum score a player can post for handicap purposes on any given hole, preventing a single bad hole from disproportionately affecting their index.
