Slice

A shot that curves sharply from left to right for right-handed golfers, typically unintentional and resulting in significant distance and accuracy loss.

What does slice mean in golf?

The slice is the most common miss among recreational golfers. It is caused by a clubface that is open relative to the swing path at impact, imparting excessive left-to-right sidespin. A slice loses both distance and accuracy, often finishing in the right rough or out of bounds. Correcting a slice typically involves addressing grip, clubface position at the top of the backswing, and swing path through impact. Many golfers spend years working to eliminate their slice.
